Ottawa Mould Craft is a plastic injection molding company located in Ottawa, Canada. The company is over 50 years old and has around 100 employees.

Kim is responsible for training, development, recruitment, and onboarding, and everything involved in those processes.

In the beginning, they used PowerPoint to deliver self-paced training for their employees. But that wasn’t very practical because it wasn’t possible to keep track of the training. So Kim started looking for an LMS that she could use in the company. “Initially, it was looking for something that could track annual training so that we had records of training of all of our employees in the production line,” she said.

They also used paper-based tests. The company requires its employees to complete an annual certification training to ensure that they were meeting the requirements. “I wanted to find something that was online, that was trackable, move the assessments to online, so it was immediately capturing completion, immediately capturing test scores, and then we could measure that year over year.”

Looking for an LMS

Kim did some online searches to look for an LMS that could meet the company’s needs. “From a design perspective, I wanted it to be something that I could easily and quickly and efficiently load content to and use immediately. Also, I wanted to make sure it was user-friendly for our audience.” She found what she was looking for in Easy LMS.

She started using Easy LMS only to create online Assessments for the employees. Since then, she started using other modules in the tool. “Now we are building Courses. We have been using it for onboarding. I’m finding a way to re-use our old media to explain what we do to people who have never worked in the industry before and try to attract them.”

An Easy LMS pro

When she started using Easy LMS, Kim was basically copy-pasting her old material into Easy LMS. “When I first started using it, it was just copying and pasting, either my paper assessments or my ideas from my head into the platform, so it was pretty basic,” she said. But since then, she has evolved a lot.

She learned that she could customize her content, changing the color, adding a logo and company images to make her material more branded. “I noticed I could make everything uniform and identifiable.” She has also been creating different types of content.

With the different subscription packages and the different content types, Kim thinks the company can grow with Easy LMS. “If I was recommending it to someone, if they are starting out, it’s an easy learning curve, but if you’re growing and developing and need a more robust program, that is available here as well.”

Better annual reports

With courses and tests online, Kim is proud to say that it’s much easier to measure employee training progress now.

“Having the Assessments and the Courses online helps us make sure that the programs are being followed for the timelines we’ve outlined. We use the Exams to assess if the learner has learned enough to move to the next stage. The Exam results help me determine if I need to improve anything in the learning content, so it helps us improve our training programs overall.”
